Prison and Prisoners


Prison and Prisoners is a set of four simple animated slides designed to illustrate different aspects of the prison population:


1. Average Annual Prison Population (1): Illustrates the rising prison population over the past 30 years, with 1900 included as a comparison date.


2. Average Annual Prison Population (2): As with the previous slide, but with the addition of two further years (1920 and 1940) that can be used to illustrate the significance of the number of  young males in a population to prison numbers.


3. Sentenced Prison Population by Gender and Offence: Graphic illustration of difference in male and female prison populations.


4. Comparative Prison Population:Compares the imprisonment rate in England and Wales with 16 other countries around the world.
